In 2023, VELUX introduced a new series of blinds engineered to minimise carbon emissions.
Reducing emissions and improving circularity
In 2023, VELUX launched a new range of low-carbon blinds. This new product range is helping us learn about how we can reduce carbon emissions and increase circularity in product development.
The new range of blinds is made mainly from recycled materials and has just half of the carbon footprint of VELUX standard blinds. The blind profiles contain a minimum of 75% of recycled post-consumer aluminium scrap, which is also manufactured using renewable electricity. In addition, the textiles of the blinds are made from 100% recycled fabric.
In 2022, VELUX started a partnership with aluminium producer Hydro to develop and supply low-carbon aluminium for other products. Together we are working to reduce CO2 emissions per kilogramme of aluminium to below two kilogrammes. This is less than one-fifth of the current European average.
Through collaborative efforts like these, VELUX aims to steadily decrease the carbon footprint of its products while contributing to more sustainable manufacturing practices in the industry.
By 2030, we aim to remove all plastic from our packaging and make it 100% recyclable.
Throughout the VELUX Group, we are transitioning to single-material, recyclable, plastic-free packaging. This new packaging is designed to deliver high levels of protection and can be disposed of in one waste stream for recycling.
