Our decarbonisation commitments

We are committed to reducing emissions from our own operations and our value chain. To do so, we have set targets that follow the most ambitious pathway of the Paris Agreement and that have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.

By 2030, we aim to:

  • Reduce our operational (scope 1&2) emissions by 100% from 2020 levels
  • Halve our value chain (scope 3) emissions from 2020 levels
56% reduction
We have achieved a 56% reduction in our scope 1&2 emissions since 2020.
100% achieved
In 2023, we achieved 100% documented renewable electricity across the VELUX Group.
3 partnerships
We have entered partnerships with three suppliers to source lower carbon materials.

Reducing our value chain emissions

In the VELUX Group, 98% of our carbon footprint relates to scope 3 emissions and comes from outside our own operations, the majority from the materials used in our products. We have identified and are working with several decarbonisation levers in order to reduce the embodied carbon footprint of our products. We are working to increase the share of materials that are low carbon and have a high recycled content. Through partnerships and collaborations with suppliers, we have already been able to reduce carbon emissions from steel and aluminium used in our products.

Ambitious goals aligned with climate science

In 2020, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) verified our greenhouse gas reduction targets for our own operations and for our value chain. This means that these targets are aligned with climate science and what is required to keep global warming to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.

The validation covers our scope 1&2 targets to reduce emissions from our operations by 100% by 2030, as well as our scope 3 target, to reduce our value chain emissions by 50% by 2030 from 2020 levels.

Reducing operational emissions
Cutting our emissions by 2030
By 2030, we aim to reduce our emissions from production and operations by 100%. To achieve this, we are transitioning to renewable energy and focusing on energy efficiency across all our sites. Furthermore, we have entered into renewable power purchase agreements enabling two new solar plants in southern Spain. Once both are operational, they will produce enough power to cover the equivalent of all VELUX Group European operations and about 90% of our current global electricity consumption.
